You’ve just received a gorgeous bouquet from Floris Istana, and it’s sitting pretty on your dining table — but how do you keep it fresh for as long as possible?
We know Malaysia’s warm and humid weather can be tricky for flower care, so we’re sharing our top DIY flower care tips to help you extend the life of your arrangements at home.
Because beautiful flowers deserve more than just a moment — they deserve to bloom longer, brighter, and better. 💐
💧 1. Start With a Clean Vase
Before arranging your flowers, wash your vase with warm, soapy water to remove any bacteria. Rinse well and fill it with room-temperature water.
🧼 Pro tip: Add a few drops of bleach to the water to prevent bacterial growth.
✂️ 2. Trim the Stems at an Angle
Cut 1–2 cm off the stems with a sharp pair of scissors or floral shears, ideally at a 45-degree angle. This helps flowers absorb more water and prevents them from sitting flat at the bottom of the vase.
✂️ Re-trim every 2–3 days to keep water flowing.
❄️ 3. Keep Flowers Cool & Away from Sunlight
Heat speeds up the wilting process, so place your flowers:
In a cool, shaded spot (no direct sun)
Away from fans, air-conditioning vents, and fruit (yes, fruit gives off ethylene gas that shortens flower life!)
🏡 Ideal spots? Dining tables, living rooms, or entryways with soft light.
🍯 4. DIY Flower Food Recipe
Ran out of flower food? Here’s an easy homemade version:
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon sugar (food for flowers)
1 teaspoon bleach or vinegar (antibacterial)
2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice
500ml water
Mix well and change water every 2 days!
💐 5. Different Flowers Need Different Care
Here’s a quick guide for your most-loved blooms from Floris Istana:
Roses: Remove guard petals; change water often
Baby’s Breath: Keep dry; mist lightly instead
Tulips: Keep in taller vases; they keep growing!
Hydrangeas: Mist petals directly; submerge heads if wilted
Orchids: Keep in cooler rooms, avoid overwatering
🧡 Bonus Tip: Revive Wilted Flowers
If your bouquet is looking tired, try this:
Re-cut the stems under running water
Submerge them (stems & blooms) in cool water for 30 minutes
Place them back in a clean vase with fresh water
You’ll be amazed how many blooms perk right back up!
🌷 Let Your Flowers Live Their Best Life

With just a little TLC, your bouquet can last 3-7days — sometimes even longer depending on the species!Whether it’s a birthday surprise, anniversary gift, or a just because treat from yourself to yourself, let your flowers remind you to slow down, breathe in beauty, and celebrate the little moments.
